I am excited to announce that Brady just launched a new website, and with it, a clearer look into our theory of change as well as robust new resources.

This new website is anchored in Brady’s unique three-point strategy to free America from gun violence: change the laws [[link removed]] , change the gun industry [[link removed]] , and change the culture [[link removed]] . This approach follows the roadmap behind other successful public health campaigns, including those to prevent drunk driving, promote seatbelt use, and reduce youth smoking.

Gun violence is a uniquely American epidemic. As this crisis worsens, we know that changing laws and policies isn’t the only solution. We must also change the way Americans think about the culture we’ve created around guns and gun violence. In other words, we need to change America’s hearts and minds. As our new website showcases, we have several initiatives [[link removed]] in place that are dedicated to doing just that, and we are excited to grow those efforts.

Brady’s efforts — including this new website — are research-based and data-driven. We’re excited to bring our supporters dozens of new educational resources informed by Brady’s team of experts across our legal, policy, grassroots, and culture change initiatives.

Team ENOUGH Arlington Meets with Lawmakers in Washington, D.C.!

This week, members of Team ENOUGH, Brady’s youth-led initiative, met with lawmakers in Washington, D.C., to discuss legislative solutions to end gun violence in America.
The group of student activists from Arlington, VA, met with several offices, including Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. The students advocated for Ethan’s Law, which would establish a national safe gun storage mandate, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2023, and spoke with members of the newly established White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
While these young people could have spent their day off from school relaxing, instead they spent their day demanding change. And for good reason. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for youth in America making Team ENOUGH’s work critical for the safety of future generations.

Building A Future Without Gun Violence in Philadelphia

This week Brady led a two-day conference in Philadelphia along with our partners at Ceasefire PA. The at-capacity event brought together community members, organizers, artists, advocates, and experts to discuss the supply of crime guns into communities like Philadelphia and strategies to shift the burden of solving the gun violence crisis from the communities impacted to members of the gun industry who funnel guns into our neighborhoods. The entire Brady team was energized by the turnout, contributions, positive feedback, and prospective future collaborations that will surely come out of this event.

Columbine 25 Years Later: Honoring With Action

Today marks 25 years since the mass shooting at Columbine High School that killed 12 students and one teacher and injured dozens more. This week, Brady led a week of action with partners, survivors, and activists to honor the lives lost with action and demand our lawmakers address this epidemic.

On April 15, Tom Mauser, whose son Daniel was killed in the Columbine shooting, spoke passionately about his journey to prevent gun violence while at a protest outside the NRA’s headquarters. He was joined by Brady Board member Martina Leinz and local activists, who have hosted a rally outside of the NRA’s headquarters each month since the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. Virginia State Senators Saddam Azlin Salim and Ghazala Hashmi, Virginia State Delegate Karen Keys-Gamarra, and more joined in the calls to put human lives over gun industry profits.

The next day, Brady and Tom joined Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado, partners in the movement, and members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force for a press conference calling for action to end the gun violence epidemic.

On the night of April 16, director and Brady Regional Leadership Council Member Jeff Vespa screened his new documentary, “Columbine 2024: 25 Years of Trauma” to a full room at the Center for American Progress. It was followed by a panel with Jeff Vespa, Columbine teacher Kiki Leyba, and Tom Mauser. Stephan Abrams, a youth leader of Brady’s Team ENOUGH, also gave closing remarks about what it’s like for young people growing up in the post-Columbine “lockdown” generation.

This week of action comes just a month ahead of the two-year remembrance of the Uvalde shooting in Texas, underscoring how mass shootings have continued since Columbine. Our children deserve better.
