BPC in the News

As coronavirus cases continue to increase in the U.S., more states have issued stay-at-home orders. BPC's Dr. Anand Parekh outlines why a national stay-at-home order may be necessary to effectively slow down the spread of the virus. And while the country grapples with its ongoing effects, BPC experts Shai Akabas and Theresa Cardinal Brown look at what else Congress needs to do to secure the economy and protect the health of migrant workers.

BPC's Latest Work

In response to the coronavirus, BPC President Jason Grumet tackles various questions, ranging from the policy opportunities and challenges of the virus to the near-term and long-term responses to the pandemic.

If election officials are going to expand voting by mail this election cycle because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s essential to examine the existing absentee and vote-by-mail infrastructure that states already have in place. Coronavirus-related election reform will not succeed if it does not account for the existing state of policy and resource allocation.

In response to the rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic, countries are harnessing smartphone location data, social media postings, and credit card purchase records to help trace the recent movements of coronavirus patients and establish virus transmission chains. But the surveillance efforts threaten to alter the precarious balance between public safety and personal health privacy on a global scale.
