Want to know how the state of voting rights in America got so bad?

2006: Congress and President Bush renew the Voting Rights Act with overwhelming bipartisan support.

2008: Democrats win control of the White House and Congress.

2010 & 2011: Thanks to the REDMAP project, Republicans win state legislatures and gerrymander across the country.

2013: The Supreme Court strikes down a central provision of the Voting Rights Act that required federal approval of many anti-voting measures.

2013 & on: Gerrymandered Republican state legislatures pass voter suppression laws in states like North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin, and Republicans who won gerrymandered seats in Congress do nothing to reinstate the VRA.

2020: Polling stations closed, voters waiting in line for hours, people purged from the voter rolls, voter registration errors criminalized in states across the country.

Where will we go next? That's up to you.
