Before the COVID-19 pandemic, student loan debt was already a national crisis. Now, in the midst of COVID-19, loan payments could cause even more severe distress for millions of people nationwide.
That’s why Ayanna — in partnership with Representative Ilhan Omar — introduced legislation to immediately cancel at least $30,000 in student loan debt for borrowers, and require the Department of Education to assume responsibility for monthly payments of federal student loans during the COVID-19 crisis.
We want to hear from you and understand how this legislation would impact you and your family. Will you take a moment to share how student loan cancellation would impact your life and community?
During this public health and economic crisis, no one should have to choose between paying their student loans, putting food on the table, or keeping themselves and their families safe and healthy. If we can afford to bailout corporations, then we can afford a People’s Bailout that includes student debt relief.
This legislation would impact the lives of up to 45 million people nationwide. Are you one of them? Let us know how this legislation would impact your life.
Thank you for sharing your perspective with us,
