After the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a near-total abortion ban from 1864, Katie reiterated her call for the state legislature to take action and repeal the ban once and for all. Republican lawmakers failed to meet the moment, and Katie shared her thoughts on CNN:
KJZZ: Arizona governor says local prosecutors can't bring charges in abortion cases
The 1864 abortion ban requires prison time for doctors who provide abortion care to their patients, and Katie made it clear: She refuses to let that happen. In preparation for this ruling, last year Katie signed an executive order that prevents overzealous county prosecutors from prosecuting women who seek abortions and doctors who provide care.

Katie introduced a new program called “Arizona is Home” in an effort to increase homeownership. This program will help new homeowners by providing down payment assistance and mortgage interest rate relief.

In partnership with RIP Medical Debt, Katie canceled nearly $2 billion in medical debt for up to 1 million Arizonans using federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. This will happen automatically, meaning qualifying Arizonans don’t even have to worry about applying to have their medical debt canceled.

A far-right Republican lawmaker proposed legislation that would turn school board races into politicized elections, and Katie vetoed this divisive plan. In her veto letter, Katie emphasized how school boards should make decisions for the betterment of their students, not to serve a political agenda.
LGBTQ Nation: Arizona governor vetoes bill seeking to erase trans folks from public life
Extreme Republicans put a bill on Katie’s desk that was designed to erase transgender people from being legally recognized by the state — including preventing trans people from obtaining legal documents that reflect their gender identity. Thankfully, Katie vetoed this unnecessary bill and reiterated that she’ll never sign any legislation that attacks Arizonans’ freedoms.
