Washington, D.C. - On Monday, I met with 6th graders from the Episcopal School of Dallas while they were in D.C. to learn more about the U.S. government. I enjoyed meeting so many young students interested in learning more about our federal government.

Throughout the week, I joined my colleagues to vote for legislation to swiftly respond to Iran's attack on Israel. We passed legislation to terminate the tax-exempt status of terrorist supporting organizations, solidify sanctions against Iran, and condemn their unprecedented drone and missile attacks of terror. I will continue to stand with Israel as she fights to protect her people.

Tuesday, I joined my Ways and Means colleagues to grill U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai on the Biden administration’s unconstitutional trade policies which are hurting American workers. I asked her if the administration plans to enter a free trade agreement with China and she refused to answer. You can watch my line of questioning by clicking on the photo below.

Then, I met with Frank Renda to thank him for his leading role in infrastructure construction in Texas and across the globe. It was my pleasure to present him with my remarks in the Congressional Record for his achievements and contributions to Texas-24 and beyond.

I discussed my new bill, H.R. 7831, with leadership from Rice University, Trinity University, and Baylor College of Medicine. We had a conversation about how it would impact universities with high percentages of students who default on their federal student loans.

Later, I met with the American Osteopathic College of Occupational and Preventive Medicine president, Kris Belland from Keller. I look forward to our continued collaboration as I work with my Ways and Means colleagues to expand access to care.

On Wednesday, I joined my House Committee on Small Business colleagues for a markup focused on strengthening our small business owners and keeping the American Dream alive.

Then, in the Committee on Ways and Means, my colleagues and I worked to advance legislation to combat the Biden administration’s weak trade policies and offer a path forward that helps American families, workers, and job creators while countering China’s exploitative trade practices.

I met with the Texas Restaurant Association where we discussed the Employee Retention Tax Credit, workforce development, supply chain issues and how Congress can better support the booming restaurant industry in our state.

After, I had a conversation with the Consumer Tech Association about the utilization of technology and artificial intelligence for trade and healthcare purposes.

I met North Texans from the National Roofing Contractors Association. We talked about the workforce challenges they’ve faced and how Congress can support their businesses through pro-worker, pro-growth tax relief.

Later, I was glad to visit with the Texas Farm Bureau! We discussed trade, labor, and other issues affecting the agriculture industry. I appreciate all they do to feed our community.

After an amazing tour of their headquarters in North Texas, I enjoyed meeting with Toyota's team and their newly appointed President of Gulf States, Eric Williamson in D.C. They explained how the auto industry has been negatively impacted by excessive EPA regulations.

Then, I was honored to meet with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis. We discussed trade relationships that will combat China’s aggression. I appreciated him taking time to speak about these important matters.

Yesterday, I enjoyed speaking with 8th grade students on the steps of the Capitol from Covenant Christian in Colleyville. They asked thoughtful questions about my role in Congress and my job to represent them in D.C.

After, it was great to catch up with former U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Deputy Secretary, Pam Patenaude where we discussed disaster relief and emergency management. As a former Regional Administrator for HUD, I appreciate everything she continues to do for Americans impacted by disasters.

I met with the American College of Gastroenterology where we discussed the Safe Step Act which works to improve access to safer and more transparent treatments for patients. I'm working to ensure patients receive the care they need and I was pleased to tell them that I am a cosponsor of this legislation.

Then, I spoke with North Texans from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. I listened to their perspective on the challenges their patients face and was glad to hear their solutions regarding access to care.

Texas-24 Work of the Week

Recently, I introduced legislation to keep money in the pockets of American companies by expanding the duty drawback program which prevents double taxation on U.S.-made products exported to foreign nations. I’m working to bring important tax relief so American businesses can compete on the world stage.

Texas-24 Hometown Hero

This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is former Highland Park High Schooler and 2 time Masters champion, Scottie Scheffler. Golfing since the age of 6, he is the 18th golfer in history to win the Green Jacket twice. Congratulations, Scottie, on your victory!
