Good morning Democrats,
Our State Committeewoman, Jeanne Walther, and State Committeeman, Michael Walther, are pleased to share the following information regarding the upcoming Democratic National Convention District 8 Delegate Election this weekend.
Indian River County is part of U.S. Congressional District 8, which includes all of Indian River County, all of Brevard County and a portion of eastern Orange County. On Saturday, April 20, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Florida Democrats will gather at their Congressional District Caucuses across the state to elect 146 district-level delegates to the Democratic National Convention to be held in Chicago.
District 8 will elect a total of 5 delegates –3 males and 2 females - from the candidates listed below. Voting for Convention Delegates will occur Saturday (4/20) from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Indian River Dems Office – 2345 14 th Ave in Vero Beach and at the Brevard Dems Office - 2955 Pineda Plaza Way, Ste 123 in Melbourne.
Voting is open and accessible to all registered Democrats in District 8. Please bring your driver’s license or other photo-ID. Once a voter’s status is verified, they will receive a ballot – to elect District 8 delegates to support Joe Biden - the Democrat Party’s presidential candidate. Ballots with over-votes will be voided and not counted. Ballots with under votes will be counted. Once voting is concluded, the ballots will be tallied and results will be announced and certified to the Florida Democratic Party.

Florida's Extreme Abortion Ban
In just over two weeks, women across Florida will face one of the nation's harshest abortion restrictions. On May 1st, Florida's stringent 6-week abortion ban will take effect, following a Supreme Court decision upholding the law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis. The ban's severity is such that many women aren't even aware of their pregnancy at six weeks.
Yet, this ban stands in stark contrast to the sentiments of the majority of Floridians. Recent polls indicate that over 67% of residents support maintaining access to abortion services. Over the weekend, USA TODAY/Ipsos released polling on Amendment 4, showing 50% support for Amendment 4 and 16% undecided. The poll also surveyed voters on plans to turnout, with 67% Democrats planning to vote in November compared to 80% of Republicans.
With moderate Republicans protesting in double digits and non-party affiliated voters breaking for Democrats in recent elections, it's evident that voters are rejecting extremism. Similar patterns were seen earlier this year when Democrat Tom Keen won his election in HD-35 because nearly 70% of the NPA vote rejected the Trump Republican running against him.
Polls are not predictive, and it's too early in the race to make assumptions about turnout or support for ballot initiatives. However, it's crucial to continue engagement efforts and ensure that voices are heard in November. Stay informed and engaged as we navigate this critical juncture in Florida's reproductive rights landscape. Together, we can uphold the values of autonomy and bodily integrity for all.
Florida is the battleground for all of our rights and freedoms, with voters serving as the last line of defense. Between now and November, Florida Democrats are organizing every weekend to register voters and re-enroll Democrats in vote-by-mail to get out the vote in November.

Retire Rick Scott
Rick Scott is refusing to answer for his support ([link removed]) for Florida’s extreme six-week abortion ban with virtually no exceptions. That’s because Scott knows his endorsement ([link removed]) of
Florida’s ban, support ([link removed]) for a national abortion ban, and attacks ([link removed]) on safe and effective medication abortion are deeply unpopular
([link removed]) , and could cost him his seat in the Senate.
Rick Scott knows his support for the extreme six-week abortion ban could cost him his Senate seat because Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike support reproductive freedom.
Florida is ground zero in the fight for control of the Senate and the fight for reproductive freedom and the fight against Florida’s dangerous abortion ban is shining a light on Scott’s extreme anti-abortion record. But take his own word for it ([link removed]) — he would’ve signed the bill into law himself if he was governor.
This November, Floridians will reject this extreme abortion ban and send Rick Scott into retirement.
