Hey John -

The AYD Executive Board has been working diligently to make sure that our members can still stay engaged in the political process during this time of social distancing and have launched a series of virtual town halls, movie nights, and happy hours.

In addition, we have launched an AYD Community Fund for those in need in our community. In our first week alone, we were able to raise close to $300 and are about a third of our way to our goal. Can you give $5 or $10 now to help us hit our goals? We hope that you are able to contribute anything you can afford now. [[link removed]"20200405newsletterintro"]

AYD Netflix Party Night: The Other Guys [[link removed]]
Arlington Young Dems will be hosting Netflix parties every week during this period of social distancing! This Sunday, April 5th, at 7 pm we will be screening The Other Guys . The party link will be posted at 6:50 pm on the day of the screening!

Movie Description: Unlike their heroic counterparts on the force, desk-bound NYPD detectives Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) garner no headlines as they work day to day. Gamble relishes his job as a paper pusher, but Hoitz is itching to get back on the street and make a name for himself. When a seemingly minor case turns out to be a big deal, the two cops get the opportunity to finally prove to their comrades that they have the right stuff.

You do need a Netflix account in order to access the Netflix Party Google Chrome extension, but you can also start a free 30 day trial with Netflix today! In order to download the extension, follow these instructions:

1. Open Google Chrome Browser
2. Go to netflixparty.com and click the "Install Netflix Party" button. Once you're redirected, click "Add to Chrome" to install the Netflix Party extension.
3. To join a party, click on the party URL. Then click on the "NP" button next to the address bar to join the party.

We've also created a Google Hangout where we can live troubleshoot issues people may have and to add a video component for those who want that option.

AYD is bringing you a series of interviews and Q & A sessions with community leaders and experts to make sure you stay updated and informed during this uncertain time. We will be broadcasting on Facebook Live at the beginning of each week and our guests will give updates from their respective fields and answer questions from our audience members. We will be collecting these questions ahead of time via Google Form on social media and our weekly newsletter.

This interview will be a conversation between AYD Membership Director Izzie Taveraz and DAAV Chair Praveen Meyyan. Not only is Praveen the Chair of DAAV, but he is also a member of the Virginia Asian American Advisory Board and a former president of AYD.

AYD Virtual Happy Hour [[link removed]]
Join the Arlington Young Democrats for our first virtual happy hour on April 9th at 7 pm!

During this period of social distancing, AYD wants to make sure our membership still feels connected. We may be physically apart but we can still connect socially through a variety of digital platforms. In order to help accomplish this goal, the Arlington Young Dems have decided to host a virtual happy hour every other week as a time to connect, meet new people, learn how to get involved, and catch up with fellow young Dems! Everyone is welcome.

This virtual happy hour will feature THREE different chat rooms to cater to various interests! Check them out below:

1. A Night at the Museum: Join us for a virtual tour of The Vatican and The Louvre!

AYD Community Fund [[link removed]]
The Arlington Young Dems have established a community fund which aims to assist local organizations on the front lines of COVID-19. While many of us may be able to work from home, there are a number of community members who do not have such a luxury. Over the next month, we aim to raise $1,000 within our community in order to support multiple organizations, from fighting the financial impact of this disease to increasing medical supplies for healthcare workers. AYD wants to do its part in fighting this pandemic.

The AYD Community Fund will support:

AYD COVID-19 Resource Hub [[link removed]]
We’ve rolled out a section on the AYD website dedicated to giving the most up to date information on COVID-19 resources for the community. We’re frequently updating guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, pulling in resources from the county government, and adding in new community service opportunities as we continue to build a coalition for good. Here are some of the resources on our site:
