Legislative Update
It's that time of year again in the House?the omnibus bill season. Translation? The majority is bundling its little, bad bills into big, bad ones. First up is the Labor and Industry Omnibus that punishes honest mistakes with excessive penalties. Plus, it hands Governor Walz's Commissioner of Labor & Industry unchecked power to shut down entire construction sites over minor infractions. And don't get me started on the mandates that'll send construction costs soaring, making affordable housing even more out of reach. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I'll have plenty more to say when this bill hits the House floor for a vote. But for now, here's what else is on the agenda:
EMS Funding Shortfall
We're facing a crisis in emergency medical services, with a shortfall of over $120 million. House Republicans are demanding full funding to keep Minnesotans safe. Democrats' plan? They're throwing half a billion dollars around, but only $16 million is earmarked for EMS. That's a drop in the bucket compared to what they spent renovating their own office building. Talk about misplaced priorities.
Tax Day Troubles
Tax Day came and went, but the pain of Democrat-driven tax hikes lingers. Last year alone, they jacked up taxes by $10 billion, despite swimming in a surplus. And it's not stopping there?get ready for a delivery tax that'll hit you where it hurts, in just 11 weeks. Gas, groceries, mortgage rates?all going up, thanks to reckless spending. Republicans are fighting to slash wasteful spending and give Minnesota families a break. That means permanent tax relief, including axing the state tax on Social Security.
Your Tax Dollars to Illegal Aliens?
Democrats want to turn Minnesota into a sanctuary state, welcoming illegal aliens with open arms. They're bending over backward to cater to them, while everyday Minnesotans foot the bill. We offered a common-sense amendment to exclude illegal aliens from a new grant program. Democrats shot it down. And when asked how much of our state budget should be spent on illegal aliens, they clammed up.
The majority's silence speaks volumes. They're too busy pandering to extremists to care about hardworking Minnesotans like you and me.
Join me in praying for our state that we can correct our course.
God Bless,
