My name is Marlene Galán-Woods. I'm the Democrat running to unseat David Schweikert — an anti-choice, MAGA extremist — in Arizona's 1st Congressional District. My toss-up race is considered one of the most consequential for control of the House majority. President Biden won here in 2020, so this race is a golden opportunity for Democrats to gain a House seat this November.

I'm reaching out because last week, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that a near-total abortion ban from 1864 — before Arizona was even a state — is enforceable.

This Civil War-era law does not have any exceptions for rape or incest, and even goes so far as to prosecute and jail anyone who aids with abortions. Doctors, friends, loved ones — anyone. 

This is a devastating and draconian decision, and it's being celebrated by anti-choice extremists who want to systematically dismantle reproductive freedom and access to lifesaving health care in Arizona. 

My opponent David Schweikert has been one of the most vocal anti-abortion, anti-woman Republicans in Congress. He co-sponsored the "Life at Conception Act" (six times!) and supported a national abortion ban. He declared he was "pleased" with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The list goes on.

We must stop these constant attacks on reproductive freedom once and for all by replacing far-right extremists like Schweikert with pro-choice champions who will protect abortion rights at the national level.

That's why today, I'm asking you to split a donation between my campaign and EMILYs List. Together we can protect abortion access, rid AZ-01 of an anti-choice extremist, and clinch the House majority for Democrats.
