John,

With the endless barrage of news about the presidential race appearing on
our screens, it's easy to overlook other races that don't get as much
attention. But that doesn’t mean that their results won’t have a profound
effect. That’s why we wanted to draw your eyes to a pretty key election
that will likely be on your local ballot this November — one that can
impact how much you pay every month for energy, and the size of your
carbon footprint.

What the heck is the utilities board?
These boards control our local utilities (water, electricity, gas) and
have a direct and immediate say in environmental policies and how we
tackle climate change at the community level.

Why does this matter?

* Sustainability: Your vote can push the board towards renewable energy
upgrades and make those sustainable options more accessible and
affordable.
* Disaster Preparedness: Remember the Texas snowstorm of 2021? The
unprepared response to the winter storm caused power outages for over
4.5 million customers. Elected members have a huge say in how your
area responds to natural disasters.
* Community Impact: These decisions affect your daily life, from the air
you breathe to the water you drink.
* Utility Costs: The board directly controls what they consider fair and
reasonable pricing for utility bills.

local community and the power you wield over their decisions.

You have unrealized power in your local elections. Let’s normalize the
commitment to environmental sustainability and community-inclusive
decision-making, and hold our local leaders accountable for that
commitment.
