Legislative Update

*Housing Committee Finishes its work at the Bill Heads to the Floor*

The Residential Housing Tenant and Landlord Provisions bill crossed the house floor last night, a bill that has raised significant concerns among housing providers. The bill introduces more than 20 new and increased penalties, adding substantial burdens to housing providers over the Senate version that passed with some GOP support. The bill bypassed the Ways and Means committee despite including a $33,000 appropriation. It imposes limitations on housing providers? rights and limits their ability to manage their properties as they see fit. The bill also increases costs on housing providers, who will need to cover the cost of compliance, legal disputes, and increased administrative burdens. Costs that will end up passed on to consumers. ?

*The Start of Omnibus Season*

Now that most of the omnibus and supplemental budget bills have left their respective committees we will begin having more lengthy floor debates on these bills as they make their way to the governor?s desk. While I hope these bills will make it to the floor with only good legislation, the unfortunate reality is that a number of these bills will have unworkable provisions.

The long evenings and rigorous debate will be worth it to fight for the people of Minnesota. Whether it?s funding for education, infrastructure improvements, or public safety, we know that the decisions made here will ripple across communities. I am honored to continue the fight and stand up for the future of Minnesota.

*Happy Passover*

Monday marks the begging of the Passover Holiday, a significant Jewish holiday that commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. It?s a time for reflection, gratitude, and family gatherings. It?s a period of both solemn remembrance and joyous celebration, as we embrace the enduring spirit of freedom and the triumph of hope over adversity. May your Passover be filled with peace, happiness, and the warmth of loved ones. Happy Passover to all who celebrate!
