Right now, Carnival Corporation is scheduling new cruises to depart -- during a global pandemic in which cruise ships are enabling coronavirus to spread faster.
Already since the COVID-19 crisis began, several passengers on Carnival Corp. cruises have died. Hundreds more report symptoms. But the company still has 6,000 passengers trapped at sea.
Instead of protecting people, its workers, and the communities that rely on cruises for income, Carnival is trying to maximize its profits. The federal government has even considered bailing them out. We need your help to call out Carnival on its unacceptable actions!
Tell Carnival: No more cruises until the coronavirus crisis is over!
With 10 subsidiaries operating across the globe and over 40% of the global cruise market share, Carnival could be setting new, sustainable precedents for the industry.
Instead, Carnival is continuing business as usual, focusing on how quickly it can line its pockets. Carnival is already scheduling new trips. And it could even get a bailout from the federal government.
Carnival wouldn’t deserve a bailout in the best of times. This company has a horrible track record of polluting the environment -- including the fragile Alaska waters where it frequently runs trips. But its shameless pursuit of profit is even more egregious at a time when it’s putting its workers and the communities its ships dock in at risk.
It’s time to call global attention to Carnival’s disregard for public health. That’s why we’re continuing our fight to demand that Carnival clean up its act. But we need your help.
Tell Carnival to put people over profits!
The stories from cruise ships still at sea right now are horrifying. Passengers trapped on a ship where people are dying because they can’t get medical care. Workers forced to choose between losing their jobs or risking their health.
There is no excuse for Carnival to continue business as usual in this environment. Instead, the company should send its workers home (and pay them!), halt any planned cruises until the crisis is over, and step aside so the communities who are losing crucial tourist income can secure bailout money instead.
Carnival is vulnerable right now with the tourism industry in free fall. Its shares are down more than 70%. So right now, the company cannot afford to ignore consumer pressure. With your help, we can show Carnival that its polluting ways and disregard for public health have consequences. But we must act fast!
