Advancing Texas: Our Commitment to Growth and Innovation

On Wednesday, I was honored to address esteemed members of the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) at the 2024 National Affairs Awards. In my speech, I discussed significant developments that hold the promise of transforming our state into a powerhouse of innovation and economic prosperity.

We delved into the vision of Texas in 2030 and beyond—focusing on wise resource management and sustainable development. The need for strategic planning cannot be overstressed as we prepare to welcome millions to our state. We must maintain the balance between growth and conservation, ensuring that our natural resources are preserved for the next generation of farmers and our children and grandchildren.

I also enjoyed hosting the Texas Farm Bureau and Texas Cattle Raisers in my office and leading them on a night tour of the Capitol. These interactions are crucial for strengthening our commitment to Texas’ agricultural community and ensuring that our policies support their vital work.

Together, we are laying the groundwork for a prosperous future that honors our heritage and embraces innovation in the Lone Star State.

The CCP's Political Warfare Against America

Also on Wednesday, during a House Oversight and Accountability Hearing titled “Defending America from the Chinese Communist Party’s Political Warfare, Part I,” I had the opportunity to address the multifaceted political warfare waged by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) against our great nation.

At the outset, I introduced evidence that underscores the CCP's involvement in activities that threaten our national security, including illegal drug production networks and problematic land ownership that serves as fronts for operations contrary to our laws and interests. It is imperative that we recognize these actions not as isolated incidents but as part of a broader strategy to undermine American prosperity and stability.

The hearing focused on the dire consequences of the CCP’s targeted drug warfare against our youth. The introduction of new, deadly drugs, such as a fentanyl variant that is reportedly 1000 times more potent than typical street drugs, is devastating our communities. The impacts of these drugs are profound, contributing to the tragic loss of life and a significant decrease in the number of young people fit to serve in our military forces.

This insidious strategy is part of the CCP’s long-term plan to weaken our national fabric. The drugs flooding our streets are a tactical element of a larger scheme that includes economic warfare. This shift not only harms our independence but also leaves our society vulnerable to further exploitation.

Understanding the CCP's approach to political warfare is crucial. Their tactics are not limited to conventional warfare but include economic manipulation, cyber-attacks, and cultural infiltration, all aimed at diminishing our global standing and national security. We must enhance our domestic policies to safeguard our national interests, strengthen our economic and military capabilities, and protect the health and well-being of our citizens. Our response must be robust and clear—we will not tolerate any foreign interference that puts American lives at risk.

The Vital Role of I-69 in Texas’ Future

I recently met with members of the Alliance I-69, who emphasized the need for ongoing investment in the I-69 expansion. This project is crucial not only for Texas but for the entire nation, enhancing freight movement, safety, and economic opportunities across underserved regions.

I-69 will transform major highways into a modern interstate that improves freight efficiency and safety while doubling our freight capacity over the next two decades. This expansion is attracting significant business investments promising thousands of jobs and revitalizing local economies right here in the 17th Congressional District of Texas.

Moreover, the I-69 enhancements are critical for safe and efficient evacuation routes during emergencies, providing faster and safer exits for coastal communities.

Our discussions reaffirmed the necessity of continuous federal funding to complete this transformative project. I am committed to securing the resources needed to continue this progress, ensuring that Texas remains a leader in economic and infrastructural development.

Support for Israel Against Iran

The Biden Administration's policies have failed to adequately support Israel and have emboldened Iran to launch unsolicited direct attacks on Israel over the weekend. As our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel faces yet another threat to its very existence. House Republicans and America will demonstrate our unwavering resolve to stand with the Israeli people and ensure they have the necessary resources to defend themselves.

This week, House Republicans will vote on legislation to support Israel and hold Iran and its terrorist proxies accountable. House Republicans have also previously passed multiple pieces of legislation aimed at countering Iran. Below is a list of the legislation that I support.

Israel is a strategic partner and a critical ally of America. I will continue to support Israel in Congress so that it can overwhelmingly defend itself against terrorists.
