Having my commitment to ENDING gun violence recognized in this way isn’t something I take lightly. MDA is leading the charge to save lives nationwide by ending the current crisis of gun deaths, and I’m proud to be part of their fight.
As a father to two young sons, this is an issue I hold especially close to my heart.
Like parents all over America, it’s scary for me to drop my sons off at school each morning. It’s scary to be in crowds or in movie theaters with my kids. It’s scary to raise children in a country where hundreds die from guns every single day.
This isn’t the reality I want for my family, and I know it’s not the one you want for yours, either.
Taking REAL action to END gun violence will be at the top of my list of priorities when I get to Congress.
When I ran for Senate two years ago, I was the only statewide candidate in Idaho bold enough to come out in support of a ban on assault weapons. Although it shouldn’t be risky to take a position like that one, it is – but that didn’t stop me in 2022, and it’s not stopping me this time around, either.
I’m in favor of a ban on assault weapons, but I wouldn’t stop there. We also need to raise the age requirements for gun purchases and mandate background checks nationwide.
Well over 5,000 Americans have already been killed in mass shootings so far in 2024. Watching these tragedies unfold time and time again is only made worse when we have to watch Congress’s cycle of sinful inaction repeat again, too.
It’s a cycle I’m committed to ending. If you’re with me, please pitch in to my campaign today. Let’s make this country a safer place for our kids.
Thank you to Moms Demand Action for this honor, and for their tireless efforts to end the gun violence epidemic once and for all. I’m proud to be on the right side of history on this issue, and I’m proud to have you with me.
