Progressive Democrats are working tirelessly to address the disastrous effects that climate change has wrought in our communities by fighting to pass The Green New Deal. This future-forward legislation will help combat these issues by transitioning the U.S. to 100% renewable energy, creating millions of new jobs in clean energy, and ending the fossil fuel industry.
The Green New Deal is one of the biggest pieces of legislation to combat the climate crisis, and has inspired other bold, action-oriented initiatives to help. Rep. Greg Casar of Texas, a proud co-sponsor of the Green New Deal, was inspired to go one step further to speed up the transition to clean energy. He recently teamed up with Sen. Ed Markey and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to introduce the Connecting Hard-to-reach Areas with Renewably Generated Energy (CHARGE) Act.
The CHARGE Act would lay the groundwork for America’s clean energy movement by accelerating electric infrastructure across America. By providing this infrastructure, Americans would have more reliable electricity – which has become increasingly important as natural disasters and severe weather events leave underserved communities without power and resources. Rep. Casar and his colleagues introduced this bill in 2023, with the goal of creating a green, 21st-century electric grid that provides a resilient supply of renewable energy to the cities and towns that need it most.
