Dear John,

Earlier this month, Mercy For Animals released an undercover investigation

exposing cruelty that "ag-gag" legislation aims to keep hidden—just as Kentucky governor Andy Beshear considered SB 16, a bill that would criminalize blowing the whistle at factory farms.

Because advocates like you spoke up in the wake of our undercover footage captured at several Kentucky chicken farms, Governor Beshear vetoed SB 16! Unfortunately, the Kentucky legislature overturned the governor's veto last week, and SB 16 is now law.

While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we should celebrate the governor's veto as a major victory for farmed animals. Mercy For Animals will continue to oppose harmful ag-gag legislation across the country.

Our undercover investigations reveal the heartbreaking truth behind the closed doors of factory farms and slaughterhouses, sparking widespread demand for change. Yet instead of addressing the public's concerns, the animal agriculture industry tries to silence those who expose its secrets through ag-gag laws. These dangerous laws not only put farmed animals at greater risk for abuse but undermine our right to free speech, jeopardize worker and food safety, and threaten the health of our planet.

As long as animals suffer in our food system, Mercy For Animals will fight to hold the industry accountable and expose its cruelty. But we can't do this alone. Our undercover investigations rely on the generosity of advocates like you who refuse to allow deception and cruelty to persist.

Help us continue our critical work by making a gift today.

Every dollar you give is an investment in a future where compassion prevails over profit.

Thank you for standing with us against ag-gag laws and the factory farming industry. Our partnership is vital to protecting animals, defending our values, and creating a better world for all.

For the animals,

Luiza Schneider
