John,
For three years, I’ve written to you during Black Maternal Health Week in hopes of sharing good news about the progress we’ve made to address inequities in healthcare.
Sadly, I am sharing shocking statistics that should upset us all.
Because of attacks on women’s health care across the country, more women in America are dying from pregnancy-related causes than women in any other developed nation.
For Black women, reality is even worse, as they are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than their White counterparts.
In 2024, this inequity is absolutely unacceptable, John. This year, I’m committed to gathering 5,000 signatures on the petition urging Congress and the federal government to do more to help Black mothers and end the maternal health crisis. Will you add your name?SIGN ON [[link removed]]
There is much more to be done before we can genuinely say America is the best country in the world to have a baby.
It’s time for Congress and federal, state, and local agencies to work together to tackle the historic inequities Black communities continue to face — systemic injustices damaging the health and wellness of Black mothers and their families.
If you agree, please add your name to our petition: [link removed] [[link removed]]
I am determined to make progress on this issue – and I appreciate your support.
