John, five years ago today, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election was released.
His report enumerated all of the interactions between Trump and Russia during the 2016 campaign. The Trump campaign’s solicitation of Russian help, how they made use of that help, and how they lied to cover it up. And although Mueller concluded he could not prove Trump guilty of every element of the crime of conspiracy beyond a reasonable doubt, (or that he could prosecute him while he was president) his report also made it clear that the Trump campaign was only too willing to accept the help of a hostile foreign power in his election.
Indeed, because he got away with his corrupt conduct during the 2016 campaign, Trump would go on to solicit and attempt to extort help from yet another foreign power — Ukraine — in the very next election.
In the years since, Republicans censured me in Congress and removed me from the House Intelligence Committee. And after leading the first impeachment inquiry against Trump, he launches attacks on my character at any and every opportunity.
The GOP has tried everything to silence me — but just as I said during the debate over my censure, I will not yield.
I will not yield to a dangerous man who threatens to “be a dictator on day one.”
I will not yield to Republican extremists who place loyalty to an authoritarian figure over truth and justice.
And I will never yield when the very foundations of our democracy are on the line.
I’m running for U.S. Senate because I will never stop fighting for justice, John. Can I count on you to chip in $5 if you share my vision for truth and accountability?
