I learned this lesson from a young age watching my mom work two jobs to support us. From my time on the football field, to the courtroom, to working every day to make the lives of my fellow Texans better, I have always prided myself on being the hardest worker in the room.

And today, I am working harder than ever to defeat Ted Cruz because I believe Texans deserve someone who cares about more than just themself.

Playing football, there were always kids on the team with more raw talent than me. But I worked twice as hard, earned a full scholarship to Baylor, and eventually made it to the NFL.

After my time on the field was done, I became a civil rights lawyer and specialized in voting rights because I saw what was happening here in Texas, and I knew folks deserved better.

My first election was the same – I was a major underdog going up against a Republican who had served our district for over two decades. But I knew folks were ready for change, so I worked hard knocking doors, meeting everyone I could, and building a grassroots movement to flip TX-32 blue.

I'm so proud of that campaign and all the folks who joined me and worked alongside me to get it done. And if we're going to defeat Ted Cruz this November, we need the same energy and grit this time around – but on a much bigger scale.
