After Roe v. Wade was overturned, states have been left to their own accord on the issue of abortion. This sets a dangerous precedent, as the far-right works to roll back the clock and pass their extremist agenda to erode reproductive rights.
The most recent example of this is in Arizona. Their Supreme Court just allowed an outdated law from 1864 to enact a near-total abortion ban. This is a step in the wrong direction — abortion is a private matter, one that should lie in the hands of individuals, not the government.

The Arizona Abortion Access Act is a ballot initiative that is designed to guarantee individuals the right to privacy and to be empowered to make their own decisions regarding their healthcare without government interference.

In Maryland, we are fighting for the Reproductive Freedom Referendum — which, if passed, will codify the right to an abortion in the Maryland state constitution. Maryland has already been leading the fight for reproductive justice, but there is still work to be done.

Wes, alongside other leaders, is fighting tooth and nail to empower citizens and guarantee access to reproductive care. One of Wes’ very first acts as governor was to release $3.5 million to support abortion care access that had been blocked by his Republican predecessor. Elections matter, and this year is not any different. Abortion access and reproductive access are on the ballot, and we must support all efforts to protect this right for all of us.
