In 2024, we are celebrating what would have been the 25th anniversary of the AMC by honoring our roots and grounding in our present.

“The AMC is the story of how one thing leads to another. It is a story in which no one is an object and everyone is the author of the reality we write together. If we can cast one spell over the next 20 years of this beautiful, living thing, let it always stay in a process of becoming, held by a multitude of loving hands.” -Jenny Lee, AMC2020

This spring, we want to nourish our future by honoring our legacy. A legacy rich with a commitment to cultivating new ways of being and opening portals of possibilities using what Diana Nucera has coined the “strategy of joy.” This year marks what would have been the 25th anniversary of the Allied Media Conference. From humble beginnings as the Midwest Zine Fest in 1999 to officially becoming the Allied Media Conference in 2002, together we have cultivated, imagined, dreamed, and built worlds into being. Although the Allied Media Conference sunset in 2023 ([link removed]) , we are excited to dig into our roots and carry on the spirit of caring deeply about one another and our world, transmuting our grief into action, and using our creativity and media to declare that another world is possible.

In remembrance of the AMC and inspired by Una Lee’s work of Ripple Mapping its impact, we are gathering your stories about how the connections made through the conference rippled outwards and transformed lives. Did you fall in love, begin a powerful collaboration, launch a new project, manifest abundance or find your movement home? We want to hear about it! ([link removed])

In a series of interviews with longtime AMCers ([link removed]) , Sterling Toles shared how the AMC reminded him that “we are the gorgeous tapestry of infinite possibilities of how humanity can be materialized in a way to retrieve the spirit of the thing that put us here in the first place.”

adrienne maree brown also shared, “the AMC was a space where existing relationships could really deepen into projects or into things that get out in the world.”

Over the next few months, we will be sharing about our journey towards fiscal sponsorship, the LOVE building, and how supporting the work of our projects shapes our world as we continue to fight together for futures of self-determination, liberation, and dignity.
