President's Message

Every Kid Healthy™ Week, launched by Action for Healthy Kids in 2013, is next week! The annual observance celebrates school wellness achievements, aims to help communities understand the connection between student health and learning, and supports schools in promoting healthy lifestyles for kids.

The communities where children and families live, learn, work, and play profoundly influence various aspects of physical and emotional health and well-being. These healthy communities lay the groundwork and provide the resources necessary to create conditions and opportunities that foster healthy lifestyles. In this endeavor, school nurses play a pivotal role as they are indispensable partners in enhancing school and community health. Their effective collaboration across sectors helps address health and learning barriers, thereby improving health processes and outcomes.

Let’s continue working together to ensure all children have a bright and healthy future!

Kate King, DNP, MS, RN, LSN

Managing Chronic Health Conditions

Care Coordination for Students with Chronic Health Conditions

School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential. NASN's Toolkit for Improving Care Coordination for Students with Chronic Health Conditions, organized into five distinct sections, supports the school nurse role in leading care coordination.
