John,
As you may have seen, last week the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) (H.R. 7891) was introduced in the House! This was a long time coming. Along with continued pressure on the Senate to pass KOSA, Issue One has been advocating for a House companion bill for months.
And, just yesterday, the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee, within the House Energy and Commerce Committee, held a hearing about protecting kids’ safety online where they discussed KOSA, in addition to other important bills like comprehensive data privacy. The movement this bill is already seeing in the House is exciting and we at Issue One were pleased by the support KOSA received from members and witnesses during yesterday’s hearing.
It’s clear that the thousands of calls and letters from people like you are working, but we still need your help to build even more momentum for this critical bill and get it across the line and passed into law. Will you contact your representative and tell them to support KOSA?
KOSA would help bolster kids’ safety online, addressing the harmful social media business model by placing the health and well-being of minor users over advertising revenue. This is critical to protecting our children and also safeguarding our democracy, by taking a first important step to regulate the social media giants.
It’s time for Congress to act and hold Big Tech accountable. It’s time to protect and create a safer online environment for children.
Write your representative today and urge them to support KOSA!
Thanks for all you do,
Alix Fraser Council for Responsible Social Media Director
