Washington has long been a leader in gun safety reform. In fact, Washington voters overwhelmingly passed universal background checks more than a decade ago.
Now, we need to take this fight one step further.
Last week, President Biden called on Congress to finish the job and pass universal background check legislation nationwide.
Far too many Americans have experienced the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence.
This crisis is pervasive – but it’s also preventable. Washington state has been on the forefront of gun safety reform for years, and we have proven without a doubt that common-sense measures like universal background checks work.
I’m proud of the important steps we’ve already taken to address the threat of gun violence across the country – but we have a lot more work ahead.
