ANNOUNCING OUR GLOBAL YOUNG AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR
New this year, we will recognize a Global Young Ambassador of the Year — a young adult from our Global Young Ambassador Network who has demonstrated excellence in tobacco prevention in areas such as policy change, peer mobilization, and media advocacy.
We’re thrilled to present our inaugural Global Young Ambassador of the Year award to Given Kapolyo from Lusaka, Zambia! |
About Given Kapolyo
Given Kapolyo is a passionate young advocate at the forefront of the battle against tobacco use in Africa. Widely known as “the tobacco control warrior," she has recruited, trained and mentored youth throughout her home country of Zambia.
Given currently serves as Campaigns and Mobilization Officer at the Center for Trade Policy and Development and as Chairperson for the Youth in Power Africa Rise – Zambia chapter, a Pan-African youth movement for tobacco control. She's also a founding member of the Young Professionals Network in Zambia, where she has spearheaded a dynamic movement advocating for youth involvement in critical issues, particularly public health and education.
Most notably, Given has played a leading role in advancing Zambia’s comprehensive tobacco control bill, which includes 100% smoke-free public places, pictorial health warnings, regulation of emerging tobacco products and a ban on tobacco advertising. She's organized advocates to write letters to the president, coordinated impactful protests outside of the National Assembly, and engaged directly with the ministries of health and justice.
Given's dedication to creating a healthier future for all makes her an inspiration to young advocates across Zambia and all of Africa.
