National Kindergarten Day ? April 21
National Kindergarten Day is almost here! Observe the day with these Statistics in Schools kindergarten through second grade activities to teach students the importance of data while also enhancing their statistical and civic literacy skills:
-
Let?s Count ? Students count items in their classroom; record their findings in a data table; and discuss why such data is so important.
-
My Dream Home ? Students construct their dream home after reviewing and analyzing data on housing characteristics like the number of homes by total bedroom units in the United States.
-
How Does Our Class Compare? ? Students collect, organize, and compare data about the number of girls and boys in their classroom who play sports, take lessons, and participate in clubs.
In Case You Missed It: Earth Day ? April 22
It?s Earth Day! Celebrate with your students using our Earth Day Fun Facts that include such environmental data as the different ways U.S. homes are heated; the average commute time; and renewable energy sources. Once students have reviewed the facts, they can work together to complete one of the teaching guide activity suggestions, like creating social media posts, to honor the day.
