We have a fantastic opportunity in South Dakota. 

South Dakota has closed primaries that exclude 150,000 independent and unaffiliated voters. 90% of South Dakota elections are OVER in the primary. It’s the only election that matters.  

South Dakota Open Primaries is working around the clock to put a top-two nonpartisan primary initiative on the 2024 ballot. This is a dedicated group of South Dakota Republicans, Democrats and independents from across the state working to let all voters vote. They have raised $500,000 from in-state donors, have mobilized dozens of volunteers to circulate petitions, and won the endorsement of many prominent South Dakotans, including the most respected conservative podcast in the state.  

So how can we help? Easy.  

Longtime Open Primaries supporter Guy Cammilleri has put up $50,000 of his own money as a 7 day matching gift to support the South Dakota organizing.  The match applies to donations given to the campaign committee (click here) or to the Open Primaries Education Fund South Dakota fund (click here).  

Every dollar you give will be worth two - but only if we hit the $50,000 mark. And we have one week to make it happen. The campaign committee needs funds to complete petitioning and to start building their statewide campaign infrastructure. The Open Primaries Education Fund is doing direct outreach to the state’s 150,000 independent voters to educate them about the closed primary rules and restrictions.
