Last weekend, another mass shooting gripped an American community. Late Sunday night, a mass shooting in New Orleans' Warehouse District left one woman dead and 11 others injured. The incident occurred just before midnight, with first responders transporting several victims to local hospitals. Police are in the early stages of investigation, with no arrests made yet and the motive remaining unknown. The shooting took place during the final night of the French Quarter Festival, located about a mile and a half from the scene.
This tragedy once again shows America the reality... WE NEED common-sense gun legislation. One step in that direction is reevaluating what weapons everyday people, including those with severe mental illness, have unrestricted access to purchase.
In a study by Pew Research, we see that over 90% of those polled believe that some restrictions should be in place for people who suffer from mental illness. There is also a growing trend in the number of those that believe assault-style weapons should be banned, or heavily restricted. |
