Dear Friend, Our nation’s response to the outbreak of COVID-19 demonstrates we have a long way to go to effectively address major, global health emergencies. Therefore, we as individuals must take action now to combat another global health catastrophe – the climate crisis – for the sake of all communities. A crucial way to combat the climate crisis is to stop bank financing of the fossil fuel industry. Thank you to all the Green Americans who called JPMorgan Chase and signed our petition urging the bank to stop financing fossil fuels! The banks are listening to us. JPMorgan Chase recently announced new plans to restrict its support of fossil fuels, yet it still remains the largest funder of fossil fuels by an even wider margin than ever before! Send a message today to Chase’s CEO Jamie Dimon and Bank Vice Presidents Daniel Pinto and Gordon Smith to demand the full climate commitment we need from Chase. On February 25th, Chase announced new restrictions on its financing of coal and of oil and gas projects in the Arctic, as well as support for transitioning to clean energy. On one hand, this is positive news. On the other hand, these steps are long overdue and do not outweigh the tremendous level of financing that Chase continues to provide the fossil fuel industry – 36% more than any other bank in the world – up from its 29% lead last year! We need a climate commitment from Chase that matches the urgency of the climate crisis. One that ensures there are no loopholes for supporting coal or fossil fuels in the Arctic; one that ends financing for tar sands and for new fossil fuel projects; one that respects human rights; and one that provides a detailed plan to halt fossil fuel financing in accord with the Paris Climate Agreement. Take action: Urge JPMorgan Chase to make its climate policy match the needs of the climate crisis it has bankrolled! Let’s keep up the pressure to end financing of fossils – our future is with renewable energy! For the health of people & the planet, |
