John, I lost.
In 2022, right-wing super PACs and cryptocurrency billionaires spent $3.6 million dollars to defeat my run for Congress. They were threatened by a young, progressive, Muslim woman building a brighter future.
While we couldn’t overcome being outspent nearly 4-to-1, we shocked everyone with how close we got – proving the unprecedented power of our grassroots movement.
I won’t lie, John. Losing that race and my opportunity to represent the working families of NC-04 was painful. But you don’t need to be in Washington, DC to bring about change!
The first time I ran for office was for Durham County Commissioner, because I know how important local politics are. Flash forward to now, and I was just reelected to another full term!
But my work doesn’t end here, John.
