House Delivers Mayorkas Impeachment Articles to Senate
Yesterday, as one of the impeachment managers for the U.S. House of Representatives, I participated in the delivery of the articles of impeachment for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the U.S. Senate.
I was involved in the House Committee on Homeland Security’s yearlong investigation into Secretary Mayorkas’s failed leadership that led to the current crisis at the southwest border.
Secretary Mayorkas has failed in his responsibilities to secure our southwest border, leading to a true border and immigration crisis in our country. House Republicans are holding him accountable through impeachment, and the Senate must now conduct the trial in accordance with constitutional procedures. I’m honored to be one of the impeachment managers who will work with the Senate to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable.
After the yearlong investigation, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors. The House found that he willfully and systemically refused to comply with immigration laws and breached the public trust in his handling of the unprecedented crisis at America’s southwest border. Unfortunately, the Senate has voted to dismiss the articles without a trial.
