With the global economy reeling from the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, income inequality is rightly on the minds of Bronx families.
The pain wrought by the 2008 financial crisis was felt acutely by Main Street - in the Bronx, and in cities and towns around the country. But sadly, the bulk of the economic recovery has yet to reach the folks hurt most.
The Great Recession gave the world a hard lesson on the dangers of unchecked Wall Street excess. It also showed the real consequences of failing to address systemic inequality and the financial security of everyday people. We can’t let that happen again.
John: What Congress chooses to do now has tremendous implications for our collective economic future. We can't lose sight of everyday people - not as we work to rescue important sectors of the economy and support businesses both large and small.
Growing up in a housing project in the Bronx, I saw my mom keep our family afloat on just $4.25 an hour. I'm thinking about the countless families worried about how they will put food on the table during this economic uncertainty. I’m in this fight to lift them up, and I hope you’re with me.
