Georgetown RAs vote to unionize with OPEIU Local 153

In a decisive 79-3 (96%) vote, Georgetown University’s Resident Assistants (RAs) voted today to unionize with OPEIU Local 153. This announcement comes just 25 days after the Georgetown Resident Assistant Coalition announced their intent to form a union. Fairer pay, greater accountability, and better working conditions fueled the RAs’ effort to unionize. Read more »

For the first time, AFSCME Maryland Council 3's contract covering 20,000 state employees in Units A, B, C, D, F, and H contains language allowing us to have five Chief Stewards! Building Futures is a free pre-apprenticeship program for DC residents run by the Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO.

 

Enrollment is now open for the next class, which starts on May 22. Share the printable flier with students, recent graduates, and people you know who are considering a career in the building trades.

The Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO is seeking a part-time Case Manager to work with our Building Futures pre-apprenticeship program. This position is critical to the success of the students to be able to complete the class, and to obtain jobs in the construction industry and related blue collar employment.
