John,

Many have asked why I decided to launch my campaign for Governor in 2026 now when our election date is so far off. While it may seem early, running a statewide campaign for California's highest office is no easy feat, and will take time and significant resources.

We're also staying away from some of the conventional thinking about how to run a campaign. We all know the “formula:” raise as much money as possible, stay away from tough questions in the press, and then buy up a bunch of TV ads as we get closer to Election Day.

Needless to say, we're doing things differently. Here’s what I mean by that:

1. I'm not taking any part of California for granted, nor am I limiting focus on just major hubs like San Francisco and Los Angeles. This campaign is for all Californians, which is why I'm reaching out to parts of the state that have often not received enough attention -- the Central Valley, Inland Empire, other rural communities, and more.

2. This will be an issues-focused campaign with an emphasis on meaningful policies to improve lives in our state. This campaign is about listening to your stories and identifying the tangible actions I can take on day one when I’m elected as governor.

3. I’m committed to electing Democrats up and down the ballot in 2024. This will be one of the most consequential elections in our lifetimes. And despite running a campaign of my own, I’m doing everything in power to support President Biden's re-election and ensure we secure Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate.

I’m sincerely working to earn your support, and a big part of my approach is staying transparent about the kind of campaign we are running. I'm hopeful this will be a welcome change from business as usual. If this sounds like a campaign you can support, add a donation of $10, $25, $50, or $100 to power our movement.

With gratitude,

Betty
