John, meet Luis Mata – a proud immigrant, dedicated community advocate and candidate for the TennesseeHouse of Representatives in District 49. Poised to make history as the state’s youngest and first-ever Latino legislator, Luis’s mission to look out for all Tennesseans draws much inspiration from his experiences as an undocumented immigrant.
Raised in an immigrant family, Luis grew up knowing the value of hard work and the sacrifices that come with surviving in the United States. Through college, Luis witnessed the disturbing marginalization of workers, immigrants and people of color – this inspired him to fight back against unjust state laws and organize student campaigns for immigrant rights and racial justice.
Luis’s lived experiences, coupled with his drive for change prepared him to tackle the pressing issues that matter most to Tennesseans: protecting public education, mitigating gun violence, promoting economic prosperity and access to quality healthcare.
Electing young progressives like Luis is the key to driving progressive change at the local level and stopping extremists head-on – but we can’t do so without your grassroots support. Will you please help us hit our next $5,000 fundraising goal by chipping in $5 or more to elect young progressives like Luis?
