Just a week after the state Supreme Court upheld a draconian near-total abortion ban from 1864, the Arizona GOP has voted once again to keep the pre-Civil War ban in place, despite it having NO exceptions for rape or incest.

Not only did the Republicans triple down on their anti-abortion extremism, they were caught on video cheering and applauding as they did so. Cheering the fact that child rape victims will be forced to bear their rapist’s child. Cheering the fact that those suffering from pregnancy complications or miscarriages will endure agony or even die. Cheering on Arizonans’ loss of being able to make decisions about their own bodies.

Help Arizona Democrats repeal the 1864 abortion ban!

Arizona’s GOP Senate Majority Leader Sonny Borreli told the women of his state that “Bayer Company invented aspirin. Put it between your knees," in order to not get pregnant. These extremists want to return us to an ignorant and dangerous past, and we can’t afford to let them succeed. There are far too many lives at risk.

ADLCC co-chair Priya Sundareshan responded to this latest outrage by declaring that “we are lucky to have Democrats who will do everything in their power to restore protections for the millions of Arizonans who need reproductive healthcare. However, our numbers are not yet enough– today is a perfect example of why we need to flip the legislature. Only then will we be able to codify abortion access and stop Republicans from interfering in our medical decisions ever again.”

It’s long past time Arizona had a legislature that lives in the present, not the past. Will you chip in to help elect Democrats and stop the GOP from dragging our nation back into the bad old days?
