Jack, one of my colleagues shared this Atlantic story with the headline "Democracy Dies Behind Paywalls." Working at a place like Daily Kos, I was certainly interested in the writer's perspective on paywalls, especially with the looming 2024 elections, but alas, even this article, about paywalls, was locked up behind a paywall.
Daily Kos has a business model that prioritizes accessible news and information, one that doesn’t wall off reporting that can improve lives. Please support progressive news and activism with a donation of $5 or more to Daily Kos today.

I was able to get far enough into the article to learn that "according to the Reuters Institute of Journalism, 75 percent of America's leading newspapers, magazines, and journals are behind a paywall." Of course, I couldn't click on the study because of the paywall, but was able to find it on the internet.
This is a huge, HUGE problem for our country. Paywalls are barriers to informing the public and an informed public is critical to a healthy democracy.
At Daily Kos, we think it is vital to the health of our democracy for people to have free access to the news. That's why Instead, generating revenue with paywalls, Daily Kos relies on donations from our community to make ends meet and keep our content and advocacy accessible to everyone, no matter their ability to pay.
When you make a donation to Daily Kos, it means we can continue to make our content free and accessible to everyone. We realize that not everyone can afford to make a donation. That also means that they wouldn't be able to access our content if we locked it up behind a paywall.
As we head into another critical presidential election, it is more important than ever before to keep our content available to everyone. Support progressive and independent news with a $5 or more donation to Daily Kos.

Thank you for all you do,
