The Impact Of Telemedicine On Utilization, Spending, And Quality

Telemedicine use remains substantially higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, although it has fallen from pandemic highs.

In their Ahead of Print article, Carter Nakamoto of Harvard Medical School and coauthors explore the association of greater telemedicine use ([link removed] ) across health systems with utilization, spending, and quality.

The authors determine that despite concerns about telemedicine's convenience leading to more visits, the increases in usage were relatively small.

They share the effects of "telemedicine on quality and spending could change as technology improves, health systems optimize telemedicine services, or patient demand grows."
