Don’t let your Senator KILL the Defend the Guard Act!

The Defend the Guard Act is a crucial piece of legislation that seeks to ensure that the federal government does not deploy the New Hampshire National Guard into active combat without a declaration of war by Congress, as required by Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution.

The federal government has been involved in several military conflicts including Ukraine and many conflicts in the Middle East, where there has never been an official declaration of war by Congress.

Unfortunately, the Senate Finance Committee recommended the bill for interim study by a 7-0 vote. As we all know, an interim study would effectively kill the Defend the Guard Act this session.

Now, this bill is being rushed onto the Senate floor in an attempt to SNEAK it past voters. Senators were given less than 48 hours following the Senate Finance Committee's report to decide how they will vote.

Our Senators will vote on the fate of H.B. 229 tomorrow. That’s why Citizens Alliance of New Hampshire is calling on your support today!

Citizens Alliance of New Hampshire would like to thank our Pledge Champions Representatives John Potucek and Michael Granger who are sponsoring this bill and leading the charge.

The Defend the Guard Act would protect the rights and lives of New Hampshire National Guard members by preventing them from being sent to fight in unconstitutional wars.

It would also reinforce the principle of federalism by ensuring that the federal government follows the Constitution when deploying state National Guard units.

This bill has strong support from real Republicans and Veterans, but we are going to need to keep the pressure on until the Senate vote tomorrow to ensure its passage!
