NOTES FROM THE FIELD | 2024 | No. 5

Finding Balance

[link removed]

Across rushing rivers and on city streets, over grassy savannas and in
suburban towns, through forested mountains and in rural yards,
we're all interconnected. People, wildlife, and the spaces we
share are inextricably linked. We breathe the same air, drink the same
water, and inhabit the same landscapes. And we all depend on the
health of the planet.

Unfortunately, the delicately balanced ecosystems we rely on for clean
water, food, medicine, and shelter are increasingly threatened by the
effects of pollution, including the impacts of plastics. The good news
is that as we go about our daily lives, small acts can make a big
difference. By reducing the amount of plastic we bring into our homes
and limiting our use of herbicides and pesticides, we can work
together for a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow.

We can all make a difference, wherever we are-and we thank you
for being an ally for wildlife. Your support fuels innovative,
collaborative conservation work through our eight global Conservation
Hubs

Wildlife in the Peruvian Amazon

[link removed]

SAVING TOMORROW, TODAY

The Peruvian Amazon is a biodiversity hotspot. It's home to over
4,300 species found nowhere else on Earth, many of which are
endangered. The global demand for gold is part of what's
threatening the health of this region. While gold mining can provide
critical income for local families, it also causes deforestation and
can leave behind toxic levels of mercury. Together with our partners,
we're finding conservation solutions to ensure people, wildlife,
and ecosystems can thrive through our Amazonia Conservation Hub.

of northern Kenya, a growing group of women is spearheading a
community conservation movement. Chui Mamas ("leopard
mothers" in Swahili) helps empower women while safeguarding the
future for endangered Grevy's zebras, African leopards,
elephants, and all who share the savanna. Discover the Chui
Mamas' impact as they redefine community conservation.
