Hi, my name is [First name] and I live in [City]. I’m calling to ask that [Speaker Heastie / Senator Stewart-Cousins] do everything [he / she] can to protect tenants by passing strong Good Cause eviction and rejecting rent stabilization rollbacks. Every New Yorker deserves a safe, stable home, and I will be paying attention to how the [Speaker / Senator] acts at this moment. Thank you for your time.
We’re in a serious moment. The rent protections we fought so hard to win in 2019 are about to be gutted. These laws are powerful – when we won, the landlord lobby vowed to get these rent protections rolled back.
The 2019 rent laws offer some of the strongest tenant protections New York has seen in decades. Now landlords want to see these laws thrown in the garbage, and they’re using current housing negotiations in Albany as their opportunity to strike.
The landlord lobby and Governor Hochul’s strategy is to water down Good Cause eviction and raise rents on rent-stabilized apartments in the state budget. This is a real estate giveaway that’s only going to make the homelessness crisis worse. But we don’t have to take it, Friend.
We need to fight back hard against these housing rollbacks because no New Yorker deserves to be thrown out of their home. No family should have to struggle to keep their housing.
If you agree, call Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins now and ask them to stand up for tenants in this year’s state budget.

I’m passionate about fighting for housing justice because I lost my own apartment due to unfair rent laws. My rent was going to increase dramatically because of unfair preferential rent laws – laws that no longer exist because we won strong tenant protections in 2019.
I joined the housing movement so no other tenant would ever have to go through what I did again. I wanted to fight to expand tenant protections, and we have a big fight ahead of us.
I believe we can win if we show up in our full power now and show our elected leaders and Gov. Hochul that we won’t back down. Every New Yorker deserves a place to call home, and strong housing protections are how we can make sure tenants across the state can stay in theirs.
Thank you for your time and commitment,
