Last week, California Housing Partnership released their Affordable Housing At-Risk Reports for 2024, which demonstrate how critical affordable housing preservation is to ensure safe, stable, affordable homes for all Californians. Part of the 4Ps holistic approach to housing solutions – affordable housing production, preservation, tenant protections, and homelessness prevention - preservation strategies advance solutions by ensuring that affordable homes stay affordable. And according to the new report, there are currently more than 220,000 unsubsidized affordable homes in California at risk for acquisition and conversion by for-profit entities. |

What Can We Do? The report reviews preservation strategies and policy tools that lawmakers can take action on now to ensure that nonprofit, mission-driven organizations can effectively acquire and preserve existing unsubsidized affordable housing in California. The report also endorses the Roadmap Home 2030, a bold, long-term plan to create the future we want for California by building affordable homes, protecting low-income renters, ending homelessness, and advancing racial equity and economic inclusion. |
