🏗️ Making It Easier to Build: AB 2728 Advances!

Last week, AB 2728(Gabriel) passed out of Assembly Housing without a single vote against it! AB 2728 is an amendment to SB 4(Wiener) that will make it easier to build affordable homes on land owned by faith organizations. The bill now heads to the Assembly Local Government Committee.

Help us make the case for more affordable homes! Show your support for more affordable housing by sending in your letters for AB 2728, helping us move this critical housing legislation forward. Submit an organizational support letter to the California Legislature today!

🎙️ Eden Housing Sits Down with Amie Fishman

NPH Executive Director Amie Fishman recently spoke with Eden Housing about her career in affordable housing, leading NPH, and our current electoral opportunities to make transformative change by empowering local communities with the tools they need to fund affordable housing locally.

Transformative Change Is Possible NPH is exploring ballot measure opportunities in 2024 that can empower local communities with the tools they need to fund affordable housing locally and at scale. If successful, we’ll see housing in the Bay Area that is more affordable, more stable, and more equitable for all community members.

🏘️ Making the Case for Preservation: The Partnership’s Affordable Housing At-Risk Reports

Last week, California Housing Partnership released their Affordable Housing At-Risk Reports for 2024, which demonstrate how critical affordable housing preservation is to ensure safe, stable, affordable homes for all Californians. Part of the 4Ps holistic approach to housing solutions – affordable housing production, preservation, tenant protections, and homelessness prevention - preservation strategies advance solutions by ensuring that affordable homes stay affordable. And according to the new report, there are currently more than 220,000 unsubsidized affordable homes in California at risk for acquisition and conversion by for-profit entities.

What Can We Do? The report reviews preservation strategies and policy tools that lawmakers can take action on now to ensure that nonprofit, mission-driven organizations can effectively acquire and preserve existing unsubsidized affordable housing in California.

The report also endorses the Roadmap Home 2030, a bold, long-term plan to create the future we want for California by building affordable homes, protecting low-income renters, ending homelessness, and advancing racial equity and economic inclusion.
