Trump’s New York hush money trial began this week, and with it, the right-wing media circus amped up their defense of Trump.

While Trump’s lawyers defend him in the courtroom, Fox News and other right-wing media outlets are rushing to defend him on TV and online. In one of the more ridiculous examples of this kind of coverage, Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner praised Trump for “respecting the court” just hours after Trump used the courthouse steps for an impromptu press conference where he called his case “an assault on America” and falsely claimed that he was the victim of political persecution.

Trump’s control over the right-wing media was central to making him President the first time around.

Prosecutors in this trial have already mentioned Trump’s 2016 meeting with The National Enquirer executive, who promised to shower Trump with positive stories while planting negative stories about his opponents.

But this time, with Trump being the first President to face criminal charges, it’s different. You see, John, the public isn’t allowed inside the courtroom in New York. There’s no video or audio of the trial—even still photographs are limited.

That means unbiased, honest media coverage is more important than ever. And lies and misinformation can spread unabated.

Fox News and other right-wing media outlets spread Trump talking points for views, money, and political clout.
