We'll be in Vienna for a few days to learn what social housing looks like in practice. Then, we’ll travel to Berlin to hear directly from organizers who are taking on big corporations and bringing housing in their city under community control. Our first day was busy! We met with elected officials and learned about the political opportunities and factors that created the social housing system in Vienna, like progressive taxes, rent control, and a strong social safety net. Then we went on a tour of Karl-Marx-Hof, an enormous public housing project completed in 1930. |
