Dear Friend,
Today, I’m writing to you about methadone.
Methadone is the gold standard treatment for opioid use disorder. It’s safe, effective, and saves lives. However, current regulations restrict this treatment to special clinics called OTPs.
Because of outdated restrictions on OTPs, many people have to travel across county lines to the nearest clinic and then wait in line for hours to receive treatment. Patients have to plan their entire lives around methadone treatment, making it hard to hold down a job or take care of their family. I recently held a roundtable with addiction advocates from our community who echoed these experiences, making clear the need for reform.
