MCBA's Capital Bond Transparency Recommendations

On Friday, March 8, MCBA President and CEO Louis Darrouzet submitted an official letter containing seven recommendations for transparency and expenditure as a response to the city's proposed $1.25 billion Capital Bond. The city council's proposal should deeply concern the business community and all Dallas taxpayers, as it will place the city in an unsustainable financial position for years to come. Our Community's Kids Deserve Better Schools

Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde has been laying the groundwork for a district realignment for months, and some staff started feeling its effects this week. “We’re not going to have additional funds coming in,” a district spokesperson said. “This is a challenge that every district is facing.”

Part of this realignment involves reassigning some staff and teachers. The spokesperson said less than 1% of 12,000 campus-based staff and 0.5% of all teachers in the district are being affected. “What we’re trying to do is relocate or try to find them a placement still within the district,” the spokesperson said. The teachers and staff were notified this week that their positions would be affected.

Building and Zoning Codes Should be Clear and Objective


In Dallas, the city's new office building for the department that handles building permits is closed, due to building issues.

City employees were ordered out of the building at 7800 N. Stemmons Freeway this week because of what a city spokesperson described in an email to NBC 5 as a need for, "additional facility improvements.”

The spokesperson told NBC 5 Investigates the remaining improvements include work on the building's fire suppression system along with elevator work and, “other key tenant improvements”.

The city would not answer more detailed questions Thursday about exactly what is wrong with the fire suppression system.
