Friend,
Every two hours, a child dies in Zamzam camp, Sudan.
This is the situation Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are faced with at the camp in North Darfur for people fleeing violence, where MSF is the only health provider in the area. April 15 marked a year of brutal war that has ravaged Sudan. No one has been spared—the destruction is immense and millions of people, including children, are suffering.
Other international aid organizations have evacuated and the delivery of vital humanitarian aid has almost come to a standstill. Across Sudan, the humanitarian response is failing to meet the needs of millions of people. MSF is currently the only large international aid organization providing free specialist pediatric medical care in Darfur—a region the size of France—which is not nearly enough to respond to the scale of the needs.
Without access to clean drinking water and food, the consequences are staggering: Our current estimate is that there are around 13 child deaths in Zamzam camp each day. MSF has rapidly scaled up our response, but we need your help to meet increased needs.
