We're taking you on a scavenger hunt around the globe!
Editor’s Note: As we all begin to deal with a global pandemic with COVID-19, we wanted to let you know how the Sierra Club is adapting and responding, so we can keep doing the important work of protecting our natural and human environment and fighting for a just, clean energy future.
Hi Supporter,
Team Sierra is about outreach, connection, and community. You’ve proven these values the last few days with your outpouring of support. Hundreds of you have helped to bring nature into people’s homes as a part of our Virtual Earth Month community (see photos below). Plus, many of you have nominated a loved one to surprise them with a free 50th Anniversary Earth Day shirt with touching messages.
Community is an inherent part of the Sierra Club, whether we’re in physical spaces together, taking action in spirit, or connected digitally as a powerful force for change. We were founded nearly 128 years ago on the concept of people-powered action: coming together in solidarity to advance the common good. And that’s why we wanted to create a different type of Earth Month this year.
Over the years, we've focused our Earth Day efforts on fundraising. This year we changed the plan, because it’s a challenging time for us all. If you’d like our 50th Anniversary Shirt, designed by Marine Layer, you can raise or donate any amount. Plus, you can nominate someone to receive a free shirt to send a smile their way.
These shirts cost $15 each to produce and ship. Anything you donate or raise beyond that sustains our mission to protect our planet and the people on it.
It takes 5-10 business days to ship your shirt, so we suggest ordering it before April 8. Shipping is only in the United States. Limit 1 shirt per person.
Why We're Raising Money Now
Environmental advocacy work remains as important as ever, even during this disruptive time. Earlier this week, the EPA suspended enforcement of vital environmental regulations that protect our air and water. Communities who have lived for decades with debilitating air and water pollution face a greater risk of contracting coronavirus. Breathing polluted air decreases lung function, making people in these areas even more vulnerable to the virus’s serious complications. Drinking polluted water could make people sicker than they already are.
We’re working as fast and hard as we can to stop it -- ramping up our legal, advocacy, and grassroots efforts. Please consider setting up a Team Sierra fundraiser or making a donation (and we’ll send you your shirt).
Virtual Activities
We’re sending you around the (virtual) Earth on a scavenger hunt! Get your exploring on using Google Earth. And get the scavenger hunt here.
We’re continuing to update our website in real time as we add virtual activities, so please continue to check back.
ICYMI: we’re still doing our #QuarantineLifeCalm challenge. Share a photo of nature on social media and tag 5 friends to do the same! You can take a photo of nearby nature in your yard, from your window, or reminisce about a nature filled memory. Let’s bring some calming nature photos to your feed! Check out some of the photos people have posted above.
