Making motherhood safe is at the core of UNFPA’s mandate.

Every two minutes, a woman dies of completely preventable pregnancy or childbirth complications. That’s 800 needless deaths every day.

And here’s the devastating truth: Nearly all of these deaths are preventable.

Making motherhood safe is a human rights imperative and is at the core of our mandate at UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Just look at our impact in 2022:

MAKE MOTHERHOOD SAFE

Maternal deaths and injuries are the result of women and girls having little decision-making power over their life and bodies and limited access to lifesaving family planning, prenatal, and safe delivery care.

The consequences are far-reaching. When mothers die, their families are much more vulnerable to poverty and poor health, and their babies are more likely to die before their second birthday. For every woman who loses her life to a pregnancy or childbirth complication, 20 to 30 additional women experience infections, injuries, or disabilities.

Powered by gifts from supporters, UNFPA is leading the global fight to make motherhood safer. Your donations are helping save lives by:

  • Reaching women with skilled prenatal and postpartum care
  • Training, equipping, and deploying midwives around the world to assist in safe deliveries
  • Providing women with access to family planning counseling

With less than one month until Mother’s Day, will you make a gift to help make motherhood safer? We can reduce these preventable deaths, but not without your support.

Donate $80 to support a midwife through four deliveries
Donate $100 to provide a midwife with lifesaving training
Donate $375 to cover the cost of an obstetric fistula repair surgery
Donate another amount to make motherhood safe

Thank you for supporting this critical mission.
